Assisted Living Facilities
In an assisted living facility, residents usually have their own studios or one-bedroom apartments. Units may be furnished or unfurnished, have a private or shared bathroom, and a kitchenette or full kitchen. Some facilities provide meals in a group dining room
These facilities usually provide personal care services and arrange transportation, laundry and linen service, and housekeeping. They sometimes provide health services. Facilities range from high-rise apartment buildings to residential homes. Each facility provides may provide additional services and they can advise on what is available at their facility.
Costs for assisted living facilities vary greatly depending on the size of units, services provided, and location. It is important to find out what services are included and which services require additional fees.
Adult Residential Care
A facility, agency, institution, society, corporation, partnership, company, entity, residence, person or persons, or any other group that provides adult residential care for compensation to two or more adults who are unrelated to the licensee or operator. Adult residential care includes but is not limited to the following services: lodging, meals, medication administration, intermittent nursing services, assistance with personal hygiene, assistance with transfers and ambulation, assistance with dressing, housekeeping, and laundry. Regulations may be found in RS 40:2166.3
Four levels Adult Residential Care providers
Level 1 – Personal Care Homes – A home/facility that provides room and board and personal services for compensation to two but not more than eight residents in a congregate living and dining setting.
Level 2 – A facility that provides room, board, and personal services for compensation to nine or more residents in a congregate living and dining setting.
Level 3 – A facility that provides room, board and personal services for compensation to tow or more residents that reside in individual living units which contain a minimum of one room with a kitchenette and private bathroom.
Level 4 – Provides the following services lodging, meals, medication administration, intermittent nursing services , and assistance with personal hygiene, transfers, ambulation, dressing, housekeeping and laundry.
